In any learning environment, there are unique things that differentiate classes. There will be several teachers with varying levels of understanding, patience and teaching skill. It becomes very important that you study your teacher, lecturer or faculty to get the best from them while they teach. Many students resort to complaints when they feel that they are not gaining anything from a class. While it is alright to complain and report totally bad classes with very poor teaching, you must learn to study the personality of the teacher. Take a really close and unbiased look at your teachers and try to discover for yourself how you can get the best from their classes.
Teachers use different
approaches to impart knowledge. While some may prefer the question and answer
approach, others may take the blueprint and guide system. Teaching methods are
so vast that if you keep your mind rigid, you would get stuck, irritated and
angry each time you attend the class of a teacher who seems to be using a
manner of approach to teaching that you personally dislike. You have to be
open-minded and “large-in-heart” to learn from all your teachers despite their varying
style of teaching.
In assessing the performance
of students, teachers also vary in their manner of approach to this very important
aspect of learning. You must become familiar with the way your teacher assesses
students’ performance. You must also become acquainted with the way your teacher
wants his questions answered in an examination. In fact you must know in fine
details, the uniqueness of all your teachers and tailor your manner of approach
to their questions and classes to reflect each teacher’s uniqueness.
In summary, try to get
your teachers’ phone numbers and email addresses. You can never tell when you
would need their assistance. Always try to contribute positively in class, not
to get noticed but to leave an impression of a student who is willing to learn.
Do not castigate or write off any of your teachers. If you have any genuine
complaint, lay it down at the appropriate quarters in a responsible way.
