In all walks of life, there are people who stand out as exemplary and extraordinary. The vast areas of life’s interest are filled with role models and trail blazers. These people have different stories to tell of how they ascended to the height of stardom and genius in their chosen fields and life’s work. A very true common denominator in their stories is the effort and work they had to put into play to attain the status of being the best. Many people today, excuse their under-performance or satisfactory performance on trivial issues like lack of natural talent and gift. But being the best transcends natural abilities and goes to the hidden recesses of the innermost desire and zeal. What does it take to become the best? There are many paths and routes to becoming the best but none of them is free of bumps, lows and highs. To be the best simply put, is an uphill task.

The ability to discover and have deep passion always almost spurs the desire to become the best. Passion to be the best is the most important of all passions. The strong and latent desire to climb to the pinnacle of one’s pursuit in life releases a very potent power to become the best. Passion fills the heart with determination and pushes the one filled with it to do things with dedication and commitment. The passion that comes from doing things that come naturally to you also has great power to bring out the best in you. A lot of difficulties that many encounter in getting things done could be avoided by doing things that they are naturally inclined to do well. A search the best usually succeed at is discovering their natural talents, abilities and gifts. This discovery would enable you to channel work and effort in the right direction and reap an avalanche of rewards and satisfaction in life. Passion is easier to develop when the area of interest is a natural gift. Everybody agrees that to become the best, there must be a strong desire fueled by determination and discovery.

Being the best will not come on a platter of gold. This is especially true when there are lots of competitors and co-aspirators. The world today is filled with very talented and brilliant people who would always make the quest to be the best a very tough one. To be the best therefore, requires sacrifice and extra-effort. The common saying of going the extra-mile is of utmost importance in becoming the best. The best would get up early, may go to bed late, stay up into the night and even go for days without much sleep. The best would give the ultimate sacrifice in time, money and effort. The best would not be satisfied with being among until they stand out. To become the best requires that an extra be added to the ordinary to get the extra-ordinary.

In life, a lot of things conspire to make us seem less than we perceive ourselves to the outside world. . There is the ability to get the world to see you for whom you actually are. This uncanny ability can only be demonstrated in the gravity of responsibility you carry and execute with finesse. It is no longer news that it is easier to say than to do. To be the best, you must take up more and more responsibilities. You must never be satisfied with the level of responsibility you already have. Every opportunity to work, volunteer and act must be grabbed with all readiness and willingness. The best never shy away from greater responsibilities but welcome them as a means to get to greater heights in personal achievements. Being the best naturally places you in the position of power and will most certainly cause greater responsibilities to come your way. To become and remain the best, you must embrace all responsibility that comes your way with grace. Responsibilities must be taken very seriously and every effort must be channeled to ensure that all responsibility assigned are duly and properly carried out.

There is nothing that kills the import and gravity of any good work like a soiled character. Being the best will always be weighed against the backdrop of character authenticity. A rascal would always never be counted as the best because whatever he or she is good at would most inevitably be damaged by bad character. In organisations, schools and government, recognition is never given to anyone with questionable character. Character cut across a wide range of areas and issues. It involves relationships, temperament, rules, guidelines and general attitude. Being the best means that in character, you are unwavering and credible. People all around you can testify and vouch for the humility, steadfastness and other noble character you possess. Pride must never be sensed in you and even if you have think outside the box, rules and guidelines must never be disregarded. Deceit, underhanded practices and subversive methodologies must be avoided like a plague. Character is of lofty essence in being regarded as the best without question.

Mentoring, coaching and teaching helps to reinforce a leader in a field of life. The best will always be willing and eager to teach and groom others. There is no monopoly of knowledge in the dictum of the best. Being the best actually creates the burden of raising others of equal and even better abilities at what you do. The best have advances ability to impart their knowledge and skill into others. The best must strive and work towards imparting their knowledge into others and groom many that can confidently take their place in their absence. The world revolves round this one ability that it essentially depends solely on it to ensure the continuity of things and make improvements on what has already been done. Books are another means through which the best can groom others. Through the writing of books, knowledge can cross language, geographical and cultural barriers to transform the lives of more people in a shorter period of time. To be the best, you must be willing to share your knowledge and abilities with others.

Learning is an integral and life-long vested interest of the best. They just never stop learning. The will to gulp up every new thing that comes their way  on how things can be done or better ways of doing things. This attitude of being teachable is very important to becoming the best. You must be ready to learn and re-learn at the slightest chance and opportunity even if the learning has to be done with underdogs. Learning ensures that the best remains relevant in the scheme of things and do not expire o fade away. Learning is a very broad concept and thus, may not come in the expected or usual way. Open your mind and heart to learn, read, ponder and become even better than you already are. Personal study must never be relegated to the background and effort must be made to ensure that studying is a daily affair.

Finally, being the best may require you to become adept at what you do not have a natural flair for. People who find themselves in this situation should not lose hope. Becoming the best is first and foremost discipline-based. If peradventure you are doing something great but have no natural flair for it, you can still be the best by simply practicing. Practice is a very powerful tool and can realign the senses, mind and body to become proficient at what it is directed at. Practice is said to bring perfection and is no joke. Anything you do repeatedly will eventually become second nature to you. The only requirement is perseverance. But all too often, many people give up before mastering starts to kick in.
