Rules of Preparing for Class Presentations
RULES
OF PREPARING FOR CLASS PRESENTATIONS
The classroom is an
epitome of mentor-ship and talent building. It has moulded the destiny and lives
of billions of people. In the classroom, the part of the human psyche that is
capable of doing the extraordinary is alerted, piqued and brought to the fore.
The enormous potential of the classroom to reveal the strength and weakness of
students is staggering. This brings no surprise that the classroom is revered
like the shrine and given its full due in respect and comportment. A lot of
activities take place in a classroom and one of these is the most revered class
presentation. Class presentation is a very interesting activity that can be
both exciting and scary. The following points elucidate some rules that must be
followed to ensure a successful and fraud free class presentation.
Get
the topic the way it is got
When class
presentations are to be made, each classroom has its unique way it generates
topics of interest and titles to be worked upon. There is no strict rule as to
how the teacher and students generate presentation topics. The only thing that
must not be done is to try and beat the established system of generating
presentation topics. Always find out what the topic is from the right quarters
and follow through with confirmation from the teacher. The topic of interest
must be got the way it should be got and no other way.
The
format and scope
All class presentation
would most positively have a format that must be followed in delivering the
presentation. It is very paramount that the basic way and manner in which the
presentation should be given in class be followed without deviation. A lot of
class presentations are given with slides and accompanying charts and physical
samples. It is absolutely futile to try to go beyond the bounds of what the
topic assigned entails. Just make sure you are not just familiar with the
format and size, but do really know them.
Are
we many?
The number of people
that would be presenting any given topic must be known. Many class
presentations are given by representative(s) of a group while others are given
individually. The number of people in the class that would be working on a
given topic must be clearly communicated and of course emphasized.
Time
waits for no man
Class presentations
usually occur with severe time constraints. It is so scary that many feel that
it is quite impossible to give all the most vital information on a topic in the
never enough time allocated to each person or group to speak. It is the duty of
teachers to intimate students ahead of the day for the presentation about the
time limit for each presentation.
Preparation,
power and position
It is an aberration to
go for a class presentation without adequate preparation. The developed topic
must be rehearsed over and over again until it sticks to the memory. This would
give the feel of power that makes communication flow from a position of
thorough knowledge, mastery and competence. Many presentations are graded and
ranked. Like the popular saying goes, “by their fruit you shall know them”.
Excellent presentations are usually the result of rigorous preparation.
Watch
it, do not digress
Even if a little
off-point issue must be raised, it is never pleasant to digress during a class
presentation. The right thing to do is to concentrate on the topic given and
avoid any form of digression. The time constraint and other limiting factors
conspire to ensure that presentations never go off –course and trying to do
otherwise is not welcome.
Dress
well
Always look the part any
class presentation. The dress code if there is any must be upheld and in the
absence of a dress code, dressing must be moderate and corporate. Ties must be
well knotted and gowns must be decent. It is even a standard practice that
premiums in terms of marks are awarded for dressing.
Catch
them young
This rule can make or
mar a class presentation. A very catchy introduction must be drafted for any
class presentation. A disinterested class can only portend dullness and low
scores. Make sincere effort to practice and master a captivating introduction
to the topic presented in class. It could save the day and put smiles on the
faces of those listening to the presentation.
Do
not forget the honour code
Never forget to
appreciate the teacher, visitors present and colleagues before the
presentation. This is the most basic thing that must not be left undone during
a class presentation. Tell everyone how grateful you are for the opportunity to
speak to the class during your presentation. Thank all those who made valuable
inputs but keep it all brief ant to the point.
