Seven (7) benefits of studying

Seven (7) Benefits of Studying

More productive brain
Numerical reasoning, verbal reasoning, cognition and decision making are all processed and solved by the brain. The Brain is a very mysterious organ that still baffles modern science. The brain’s capacity to solve problems and generate new ideas is greatly improved when studying is a habit. Studying by definition is not mere reading but mental effort exerted in the process of acquiring knowledge or learning. People who study a lot have brains that churn out answers quickly and reliably. In cases where answers are not forthcoming, the brain has already been conditioned to keep at the problem till a solution is found due to conditioned behavior acquired through habitual studying.

Great self-esteem
Everyone wants to feel good. Being able to solve problems at one glance would win the admiration of your peers. An expert in a given field would feel elated and good because his opinion on issues relating to his field of study is held in high esteem. The teacher or lecturer that is about to face a hall filled to capacity with inquisitive students feels confident and composed because serious and adequate preparation has already been done beforehand. That top of the world feeling and warmth in the heart  is experienced when an excellent result is got after so much have been put into studying. Best graduating student, Nobel Prize winner, PHD degree and the list could go on. Making a habit of studying could do wonders to the way we perceive ourselves. It is inevitable, studying leads to improvement, mastering and in some cases excellence. Who would not feel good about being one of the best?

Unlimited learning
It is general knowledge that books would never see its end as far as authors are concerned. The things to know about our world and beyond are uncountable. New things are discovered almost on a daily basis and many better ways of doing things are continually invented. In the fast paced world of the twenty first century, there is no specialty in which changes are not made at all. It has become imperative for practitioners of various disciplines to exercise themselves to continuous study. Almost anyone living now can learn anything if adequate study is done on the subject matter. The opportunities for learning is limitless; the internet, libraries, journals, magazines, publications and many other avenues through which learning the brain can be excited. People who study a lot and on a wide array of subject matters could actually say they know about something thoroughly just because they have studied it. There is just no limit to what can be learnt through studying.

Power
There is a popular saying that knowledge is power. The power here is not physical strength but a general acknowledgement of ones capacity to do certain things as a result of what one knows. Many people are leaders today because they are avid readers who have gained the respect of their peers and subordinates through their wealth of knowledge. There are many others who are one of the few that can do certain things very well. In this age where competition is in every facet of the world economy, the entity able to distinguish itself through exceptional knowledge exerts the most power and influence. How else can special knowledge that gives power be acquired if not through studying?

Anti-aging benefit
Growing old is something no living thing can escape from. The only that never grows old is the mind. It would always give what it is trained to give. Thus, even when the body is weak, the mind is young if the owner has put in effort to make it so. Many people go senile even before hitting their seventies because the mind was not regularly exercised through the mental exertion that studying produces. There are others who are very alert and mentally active even in their nineties. As the body grows older, the habit of studying keeps the mind active and gives an outlet for continuous relevance to the society and world. This can be especially beneficial in countering the degenerative process of aging by giving the aged something to fall back on when using the body becomes a wearying task.

Body-weight control
Soft sell magazines, advertisements and the media always bombard us with the ideal body weight and size. Many fitness and nutrition experts give their advice on how to shed off extra and unneeded fat and calories that are stored in our bodies. Well, studying burns a good amount of calories at a go. The brain as an organ is a powerhouse and when it is mentally exerted, it burns energy at a very rapid pace and in large quantities. It is good to eat right, sleep well, drink lots of water and exercise to lose weight. Studying can be added to the mix since it does a great job of burning unneeded calories
depending on how studying is done. But this is most beneficial when studying is a habit.

Improved foresight and hindsight
Many people look at things and say they see nothing while some people would look at the same thing and say they see so and so. Opticians make use of optical illusion to diagnose various eye defects in their patients. A very popular optical illusion is that of a cup and two faces. Whatever you see is what you can see, a cup , two faces or both. Many unpleasant things can be prevented with foresight and hindsight. Many situations are better handled when there is adequate foresight and hindsight. It all comes down to what one is able to see. Studying as a habit exponentially improves the ability to see things before they happen and investigate things after they have occurred. This ability is particularly useful in Science and other areas of human endeavor.

In conclusion, a person who studies a lot gains so much more in comparison to the pain and discipline that goes with making a habit of studying.
