Breaking the Jinx of Score Limits
BREAKING
THE JINX OF SCORE LIMITS
It is a heart wrenching
thing to be stuck at an unpleasant level “grade-wise”. Every time you go to
check your result, it is almost always the same unpleasant grade. It seems like
there is an invisible ceiling that sets the limit on the scores you get on any
examination or test. The most painful thing about the situation is the fact
that you have not been able to get anything above a “B” grade. The enviable “A”
grade seems to elude you like vermin. Do not give up because it is absolutely
possible to break the jinx of score limits. The very first thing you need to do
is believe that score limits can be broken. Do not let the recurring experience
of score limits weigh your spirit down. The fighting spirit and the willingness
to experience a positive turn in your grades should be paramount in your heart.
Always having the right mindset will fill your psyche with the required zeal to
surmount the challenge of breaking the jinx of score limits. This positive
attitude is the most important as it forms the foundation on which other
actions are built. It is the bedrock on which the quest to break the jinx of
score limits lies.
Get your previous
attempts and go over them again. Try and get hold of your answer scripts and go
through them thoroughly. If it is possible, go through your answer scripts or
booklet with the subject or course teacher pointing out some salient areas
where you did not get things right. Take note of all areas where you did not do
well and make plans to improve on those areas. In the advent that your score
limit is caused by the format you followed when answering the questions,
immediately make a U-turn and affect all changes to your examination answering
format.
The circle of friends
you keep could mar your chance of breaking out from the score limit jinx. The
score you desire should inform your choice of friends and associates. A rule of
thumb is to search out the most intelligent ones in class and start an active
intellectual relationship with them. Minimize your contact with average
performing students and increase your frequency of contact with grade “A “students.
In record time, you would have acquired all that is needed to break the jinx of
score limits. Your circle of friends, if they are disciplined and intelligent,
would rub off on you and before long, you will break that score limit.
Get some extra work
done. Spend more time reading, studying, practicing and preparing. Score limits
can be shattered by intensive preparation and repeated practice. Do not become
comfortable with your current academic performance. Aim for higher academic
grades. To get out of the score limit jinx, you will have to spend extra hours,
days and even months getting prepared for your examination.
On a final note, be
thorough, leave no gaps. When answering questions in the examination hall, make
sure you get the interpretation of the questions correctly and never assume anything.
