Barriers in difficult study enviroments
Barriers
in Difficult Study Environments
There are certain
conditions that encourage the act of studying. When there are favourable points
in support of how conducive an environment is for studying, more grounds can be
covered and zeal does not diminish. But more often than not, the environment is
not environment is not only unpalatable but also stifling for any studying to
be done. These unpalatable study environments pose serious threat and barriers
to the act of studying.
The foremost of the
barriers that create seriously difficult study environments is noise. Noise
causes the mind to blur and make it extremely difficult to focus. In noisy environments,
comprehension is greatly slowed and assimilation starts to crawl. The noise
barrier is compounded when there seems to be no way to escape from it due to
circumstances beyond the available power to deal with it. To study in a noisy
environment is an uphill task and even the most trained mind at ignoring
distractions deems this barrier funny at all.
The availability of
facilities that help in studying is also a major factor that could pose serious
threat to the study process. Studying is often carried out with various
instrument, gadgets and materials that aid in understanding the subject matter
of concern. When these facilities are not available or are in inadequate
quantities, a barrier of epic proportions becomes the most natural result. Lacks
of insufficient amount of facilities create a difficult study environment that
makes it possible to have an avalanche of excuses for not studying.
Time is of essence in
the study process and when it is not in sufficient quantity, studying can never
be done effectively well. The barrier of excessive responsibilities eats into
the time that could have been used to study. A busy person would always find it
difficult to settle down and study because even while studying is going on, a
call to duty could interrupt the process. The level of responsibility could be
so overwhelming that work must be done even in weekends. This creates a study
environment that is frantic, totally unorganized and a fresh recipe for
failure.
In some cases, the
abuse of places reserved for studying could be the barrier preventing effective
studying. Libraries and studying halls that have been converted into talk show
studios and common rooms cannot give any assistance to the study process. If
the home is not conducive for studying and the places set aside for the purpose
of studying cannot deliver on its reason for existing, a very hostile study
environment is in order. The abuse of places reserved for studying forces many
who want to study to do so furtively – always looking up, down and around
periodically. How difficult can it get to study in that kind of an environment?
Security and the
assurance of safety make for a great point on how it could easily become a
study barrier and create a difficult study environment. In places where the
security of lives and properties is not taken seriously, studying would be done
in the proverbial “one eye closed, one eye open” way. This kind of study environment
makes it difficult to get in tune with the material studied and thus
unnecessarily prolong study time.
The excessive and
ubiquitous availability of various means of having fun and relaxing could numb
the mind and its zeal to study. Study environments that are filled to the brim
with fun and play compounds the problem of indecision and inadequate sense of
responsibility in studying.
There could be too many
projects and assignments that almost no tangible studying is done. Environments
where emphasis is placed on mini-projects and assignments could be hazardous to
studying. This barrier makes studying and preparation for examinations, a
running on the mil and read to forget task.
Extremely short
sessions are a barrier that creates a difficult study environment for slow
learners. When a session is so short, there is hardly enough time to grasp the
essence and message in the materials studied.
Workload and
mountainous volumes of books could pose a barrier to the faint of heart to
study. The mere sight of a large textbook could make anyone who is not
sufficiently determined to not study. In our schools today, the things that
must be learned and mastered is continuously increasing and at a geometric
rate. This creates an environment where so many things with unhelpful ease of
comprehension must be learned.
Demotivating
instructors may turn an otherwise good study environment into a difficult one.
Untrained and incompetent instructors make the study process more difficult.
Studying in an environment where instructors are ill-motivated and lazy make
the study process arduous and daunting.
The barriers could go
on and on and in most cases, some are even subjective. But in all, many things
could easily turn an otherwise excellent study environment into a nightmare.
